JCHS Junior & Senior Students & Families,
As you know, we have been working to identify how best to offer a prom experience for you this spring that will conform to the health and safety guidance provided by the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority. We are planning to hold the JCHS Prom as scheduled, on Saturday, May 29th from 7:00-10:00 PM on the Junction City High School campus. Exact location and other details will depend on the county risk level designation on May 29th and are described further in the table included with this communication.
Our Junior Class Advisor, Ms. Rhonda Howard, met with those of you who expressed an interest in helping with prom planning on the initial survey. If you were not involved in the initial planning meeting, but would like to help with planning or decorating for prom, please check in with Ms. Howard to get involved. She can be reached in person at school, or via email at [email protected].
Based on the initial meeting with students, Ms. Howard has begun the process of ordering decorations for a photo area, table coverings and decorative lights as well as planning for single serving and individually wrapped snack items among other things. Beyond that, we have secured a DJ, and just learned that they have decided to donate their services for our prom! Thank you Rick and Kristin Copeland for supporting JCHS students this way!
We still need about 10 adult volunteers to chaperone this event in addition to the JCHS staff who will be present. If you or someone you know is interested in being a chaperone, please call the JCHS office at 541-998-2343 to share your contact information and find out more about how to apply to be a JCSD volunteer.
This past week, we met with District Nurse, Carol Puderbaugh, to map out our prom plans based on the county risk levels and now that we have that information, would like to share it with you, so that you know exactly what to expect.
The location, number of attendees and whether or not guests, students who are not JCHS Juniors or Seniors, will be allowed is dependent on the county risk level in place on May 29th. In both the “Lower” and “Moderate” risk categories, we will be able to hold prom indoors, following health and safety protocols and will be able to include JCHS Juniors, Seniors and their Guests with an approved Guest Pass. The Guest Pass paperwork must be submitted to Tye Rauschert in the Main Office, no later than 3:00 PM on Friday, May 21st in order to be processed. You can check in with Tye in person on campus or reach him via email at [email protected]. If we are in the “High” risk category, we will still be able to hold the event indoors, but must limit the number of participants to just JCHS Juniors and Seniors. If we are in the “Extreme” risk category, our prom will be moved outdoors to Jack Adams Tennis Court. We will be held to a 100 person maximum at a time, no outside guests will be permitted and Juniors and Seniors will be assigned specific times to enjoy prom so that we do not exceed the 100 person maximum. Former students, those who graduated early, after trimester one or two this school year, are considered seniors and are welcome to attend prom. However, you must complete the guest pass process as you are no longer current students.
In order to attend prom, all attendees must agree to and abide by the health and safety protocols, as well as the JCHS Code of Conduct found in the student handbook. Students may be asked to sign in using a QR code for contact tracing purposes, depending on the county risk level. While students are on campus, they will need to wear a face covering over their mouth and nose and maintain a physical distance of at least 3 feet from others. Masks can be removed for eating and drinking at tables only, and when masks are removed, a distance of 6 feet must be maintained. Additionally, hand sanitizer will be available throughout the prom space and all are asked to sanitize hands as needed..
Students taking photos in front of the provided “prom” backdrop will be asked to maintain a physical distance of at least 3 feet from one another and wear their face covering. We know many of you will want to have photos where you are not wearing face coverings and where you are closer than 3 feet from your friends. We ask that you take any photos like this off campus, as we must operate according to the guidelines we have been given and cannot make exceptions to physical distancing and face covering requirements.
We certainly know many things have been very different this year, and Prom will be no exception. We appreciate your willingness to abide by the guidelines that allow us to offer this event and truly hope you will have a great time and make lasting memories in spite of the challenges. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us via email at [email protected] or [email protected] or call the front office at 541-998-2343.
